LITTLE BIG FEET
In a time where grunge and alternative rock were ruling the air waves, comes a graphic novel about two teenagers from very different worlds, Douglas Firr and Rusty Samuel Squatch. The two boys cross paths one day while Rusty and his friends are snowboarding down Goblins Bluff; a formidable ski trail located in the North Pacific Mountains between California and Oregon. Unbeknown to Doug the children were young Sasquatch, little big feet. They were being watched by the keen eyes of Jacques Chartreuse a French Canadian game hunter, whose mission in life is to prove the existence of the primate cryptid, Sasquatch, dead or alive.
It all starts off on a misty cold morning, circa 1994, in the Giant Red Woods of the North Pacific. Rusty Samuel Squatch wakes up in his room on the fourth floor of his family’s giant sequoia home. The homes inhabitants consist of, Maggie, Rusty’s older sister of fifteen, Hanna Squatch, Rusty’s totally, “babe” worthy Mom, and Skip Squatch, Russ’s radical Dad and ex- pro-snowboarder; who was forced into retiring from the sport due to a bad knee injury. And let us not forget Russ’s pet salamander, Dragon. This Squatche’s best friend can typically be found sleeping in the moist basin of Rusty’s shower or hunting for Banana slugs in the canopy of the 472.4 foot sequoia tree. Rusty and his family are Sasquatch or Bigfoot. In fact they live in a community of fellow Sasquatch under the protection of, the Elders, 7 wise and ancient Sasquatch, and the source of their magical powers, Mother Pine, the first of the, great trees. Russ and his buds Steve, Dean, and Tony are in sixth grade at Sequoia Valley Middle School where Rusty gets bullied by his nemesis Laith Spruce and develops his first crush on Fiona Tarfoot; a pitch black haired little big foot in his Earth Science class. Russ and the guys live to snowboard! When the boys aren’t in class they are out in the snow. Although they are forbidden to do so outside the energy field of the, Community, they sneak out to ski resort stashes and ever more challenging terrain to test their snowboarding skills. It is in this world that Rusty and his people live, and it is in the meeting of Rusty and Doug that fateful day on Goblins Bluff, that the future of Doug, Russ and his fellow Sasquatch would be forever changed. For in that meeting the villainous Jacques Chartreuse sees his chance to grasp what had been alluding him, the proof that Sasquatch do exist. As JC sees it Doug Firr is the perfect conduit for reaching that goal. While JC doesn’t know where all the righteous snowboarding spots are Doug does and if Doug is boarding them then chances are the little big feet will be there too. All JC has to do now is trail Doug until he runs into the real prey, Rusty and his friends.
